May 1- May 4

Hi Room 4 Families,

We continue to have a blast in Room 4! Read on to hear a few of the things we got up to this last week.

We began the week by getting into our literacy groups. We continue to work on targeted skills in our groups such as specific comprehension strategies (i.e., re-reading passages, vocabulary tasks, etc.), decoding skills (i.e., individual letter sounds, consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words, digraphs, etc.), fluency, as well as developing our functional writing skills.

In Math, we have been focusing on both money and subtraction. We have integrated the two concepts together. We are counting groups of coins and identifying specific amounts required to 'purchase' items.

In Science, we continued our focus on the Water Cycle and read the book, Drop: An Adventure Through the Water Cycle. We are keen to listen to the Water Cycle song, which helps us remember the parts of the water cycle: precipitation, evaporation and condensation. To end the week, we sketched the water cycle in our visual journals.

By far, the two highlights of the week were our visit to the Southwood Community Library and the School Dance. We listened to a social story and discussed expected and unexpected behaviours when visiting a library. We did an excellent job representing EMJ during our visit and were very respectful during our time there. We were each able to choose two books to check out and will enjoy them until we return them next Friday (weather depending) and exchange them for new books. Special thanks to the Southwood Library staff for being so accommodating and helpful!

The School Dance was an excellent way to end the week. It was so nice to see so many of our Room 4 friends at the dance along with their lovely family members. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it and special thanks to Student Council for organizing such an amazing event for our wonderful students.
