February 21-24

Hi Room 4 Families,

Although it was a short and frigid week, Room 4 friends had a busy week of learning and fun!

We continue to split into our literacy groups to work on targeted reading skills. During this time, we work on phonological awareness skills, phonics, spelling, fluency and comprehension.

For numeracy, we worked on small and large groups to target specific skills such as skip counting, identifying Canadian money, and place value.

The most excitement this week centered around our field trip to the Saddledome on Pink Shirt Day. This was such an amazing opportunity for each of us! We were all very respectful and demonstrated good listening skills to ensure the trip went smoothly. We reviewed the significance of Pink Shirt Day and discussed ways we can help others.

Lastly, we were keen to learn more about Lacrosse during our residency this week. Our instructor was incredible and we learned how to properly scoop, pass and catch the ball. We also learned a few neat tricks such as "flip the pancake".

Next week, we are hoping for milder weather to take a few community walks and review pedestrian safety. Additionally, we will take some time to discuss how we can be safe around people we do not know and discussing who are people we can trust.

Reminders:

"Public Health Nurses will be coming to the school on Wednesday March 1st to provide routine immunizations to students in grade 1-5 who have returned signed consent forms.  If you did not receive consent form(s), your child does not require immunizations at this time.

Please note that COVID and influenza immunizations are not offered through the school immunization program, and only routine immunizations with signed consent forms will be provided.

If your child has had any changes to their health status since returning the forms, please call your school's public health nurse to let them know. If you have previously agreed to the immunizations but have since changed your mind, please call your school's public health nurse prior to March 1st to withdraw your consent.

Please ensure your child eats breakfast and wears a short sleeve shirt for immunization day. If you would like to speak with the school nurse, please contact Becky Bell at becky.bell@ahs.ca, or call at 403-944 7187.
