April 24-28
Hi Room 4 Families,
It is hard to believe that May is just about here! Time really is flying!
We had an excellent week in Room 4. With the weather being so beautiful, we are thrilled to be able to get outdoors and partake in land-based learning.
To begin the week, we read the book, Wangari's Tree of Peace: A True Story from Africa, by Jeanette Winter. This book was directly related to our work on being environmental stewards and the impact that cutting down trees, and not replanting, has on all living things.
To solidify the work we have been doing on the food chain and endangered species, we sketched a food chain in our visual journals. Next, we will learn more about the significance of keeping our water systems clean and how we can reduce water pollution.
We had an absolute blast completing Mission Impossible. This end-of-unit task allowed us to utilize all the skills we gained during our gymnastics unit. Although we are sad to see it gone for this school year, we look forward to participating in more outdoor fun such as kickball, skipping, soccer and parachute games.
We ended the week with a lovely community walk where we identified different producers and consumers that are right in our own 'backyards'. This involved a Nature Scavenger hunt where we had to utilize our 5 senses to find various items.
Next week is a four-day school week for students. We plan on continuing our learning outside and will spend the better part of the mornings at the local park (just around the corner from EMJ) completing various literacy and numeracy tasks.
