May 29- June 2

 Hi Room 4 Families,

Well, we cannot believe June is here! We have had such an amazing journey of learning and fun in Room 4. We have only 18 school days left (Yes, we have been doing a countdown each day!), and we will continue our learning journey. We will have our daily literacy and math groups, nature-based learning during our daily community walks, and explore fun science concepts, which include some fun experiments (based on student suggestions).

The highlight this week was most definitely our trip to the zoo. We were thrilled to take a chartered city bus to the zoo. For some of us, it was our first time riding one! We were very thankful the rain stayed away that day.

We worked on our targeted literacy skills this week, which included comprehension strategies such as re-reading text to gain a better understanding, decoding consonant-vowel-consonant words (CVC) that include the short ĭ, and CVCC and CCVC words that included the digraphs /sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /wh/. We have all come so far in our reading. We are encouraged to read at home every day (15-20 minutes) to ensure we retain our reading skills, especially over the summer. Raz Kids (login information in our agenda folders), Teach Your Monster to Read, Flyleaf Publishing and Epic digital library are all great websites that allow us to practice our reading skills.

In Math, we will continue our subtraction work and Canadian Money. We will explore the concept of sorting and review the time.

** Friendly Reminder: We will be taking community walks daily (provided the weather cooperates).
